Concealed Carry of a Deadly Weapon (CCDW)

The CCDW firearms training course is conducted over a 2 day period

Day 1: Classroom & Dry Fire Training

Day 2: Live Fire Activities conducted at firing range.

 

Classroom time includes the following elements:

A. Knowledge and safe handling of firearms;

     - Reveiw of the 4 Universal safety rules

B. Safe storage of firearms and child safety;

C. Care and maintenance of firearms;

D. Safe storage of ammunition and child safety;

     - Safe handling of ammunition

E. Firearms shooting fundamentals;

F. How to develop and maintain firearm shooting skills;

G. Instruction regarding federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms;

H. Instruction regarding the laws of this State pertaining to the use of deadly force for self-defense; and

I. Techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution.

 

Live Fire Training:

J. Live fire shooting exercises conducted on a range, Including the expenditure of a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition;

 

Note that live fire exercises will be conducted at local firing range.

The Handgun Qualification License (HQL)

Firearms Safety Training Course is instructed by a Qualified Handgun Instructor, and consist of a minimum of 4 hours of classroom instruction and Live Fire range training.

Training includes the following minimum curricula:

1. State Firearm Law. Overview of the State firearm laws.

     a. Discussion of what constitutes a regulated firearm

     b. How to properly purchase or transfer a firearm

     c. Where you are allowed to carry a firearm and how to properly transport a firearm

     d. When necessary to possess a carry permit, who is prohibited from possessing firearms

     e. State laws relating to minors

     f. Permissible levels of force, and use of deadly force.

2. Home Firearm Safety. Overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home

     a. Discussion of access to minors

     b. Locking and storing of firearms, and use of safety devices, such as secure lock boxes.

3. Handgun Mechanisms and Operation. Overview of the proper operation and safe handling of a                  handgun

     a. Cleaning and maintenance

     b. Loading and unloading of ammunition

     c. Differences between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.

4. Operation and Handling Demonstration. Orientation component that demonstrates the                                person’s safe operation and handling of a firearm

     a. “Live Fire” component in which the applicant safely shoots the weapon.

- 16 hr Initial Training

The 3 Day firearms training course includes the following elements:

A) Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of firearms;

B) Instruction regarding safe storage of firearms and child safety

C) Instruction regarding knowledge and safe handling of ammunition;

D) Instruction regarding safe storage of ammunition and child safety;

E) Instruction regarding safe firearms shooting fundamentals;

F) Live fire shooting exercises conducted on a range, including the expenditure of a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition;

G) Identification of ways to develop and maintain firearm shooting skills;

H) Instruction regarding federal and state laws pertaining to the lawful purchase, ownership, transportation, use and possession of firearms;

I) Instruction regarding the laws of this State pertaining to the use of deadly force for self defense

J) Instruction regarding techniques for avoiding a criminal attack and how to manage a violent confrontation, including conflict resolution

D) Instruction regarding safe storage of ammunition and child safety;
